Igel OS
You may not have heard of Igel OS. However, for organisations where security is paramount such as US Federal Government agencies including the Office for Homeland Security and NASA, Igel is the endpoint operating system of choice. Similarly, Igel OS is commonly deployed in many of the worlds largest banks and insurance companies in order to keep their customer data safe.
With Cognition Cloud you get the same endpoint protection. We convert your desktops and laptops to Igel OS. BYOD users can use the UD Pocket – an Igel OS on a tiny USB stick. Any compatible computer can be temporarily converted to enable secure access to Cognition Cloud workspaces. As soon as it’s unplugged, the device immediately returns to its original environment.
A Small Attack Surface
Igel OS has built-in security to protect and safeguard your business. Unnecessary features and services have been removed. It’s only real function is to allow secure access to your cloud workspace. No data is ever stored on the device.
Read-Only and Tamper-Proof
Igel’s operating system and software reside on read-only storage partitions that cannot be changed. Additionally, they are cryptographically signed and validated at every boot to make sure that they have not been tampered with. Igel OS makes your computers a difficult and unappealing target for would be hackers.
Identity and Access Management
Multi-Factor Authentication
Multi-factor authentication is a layered approach to securing data and applications, where a system requires a user to present a combination of two or more credentials to verify their identity for login. With Cognition Cloud you use the biometrics (fingerprint or facial recognition) on your mobile phone to authorise all account sign-ins. This increases security because even if one credential becomes compromised, unauthorized users don’t have your fingerprint or your face. They will therefore not be able to access the targeted account.
Conditional Access
In addition to MFA, Cognition Cloud uses conditional access policies to prevent users from accessing their desktops from non-compliant devices. This prevents accces from devices that are not using Igel or InTune from connecting. We also block IP traffic from certain locations – although these can be adjusted if you are traveling and need to be able to access your desktop.
RBAC
Role Based Access Control is implemented across Cognition Cloud using the priniciple of least privalage access. That means that people have enough access to do their jobs, but have no access beyond that.
Microsoft Defender for Office 365
Cognition Cloud uses Defender for Office 365 to protect against advanced attacks, such as phishing, malware, spam, and business email compromise. This protection goes beyond your email and covers Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Office apps.
Windows & Application Virtualisation
Windows machines that have not been updated with the latest security patches create an opportunity for hackers. Managing patches can be time consuming and disruptive for users. Not with Cognition Cloud.
On Azure Virtual Desktop, Cognition Cloud checks for and deploys Windows updates every week. These are then deployed silently in the middle of the night while your users are asleep. In most cases, they won’t even know it has been done, but will be protected.
